Valencia Regional Government Choir

cor-gv-foto-tania-castroThe Valencia Regional Government Choir, which was founded in 1987 and is actually under the auspices of the IVM (Valencia Institute of Music. Its artistic director is Francesc Perales, with Francisco Hervás serving as the piano accompanist.

Almost from the very beginning, the Choir earned a reputation as one of the world-class Spanish chorale groups, acclaimed for its performance in both concerts and stage operas. Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana has been conducted by Francesc Perales, Claudio Abbado, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Antonello Allemandi, Bertrand de Billy, Franz-Paul Decker, Manuel Galduf, Enrique García Asensio, Luis Antonio García Navarro, Miguel Angel Gómez Martínez, Leopold Hager, Cristóbal Halffter, Robert King, Sir Neville Marriner, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Krzysztof Penderecki, Josep Pons, Michel Plasson, Georges Prêtre, Alexander Rahbari, Helmuth Rilling, David Robertson, Guennadi Rojdestvenski, Antoni Ros-Marbà, Mstislav Rostropovich, Claudio Scimone, Tamás Vásáry y Alberto Zedda.

The Choir has performed at Madrid's Teatro Real , Teatro María Guerrero and Auditorio Nacional, Barcelona's Palau de la Música Catalana and Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Teatro de la Maestranza in Sevilla and Tenerife's Auditorium. Festival performances include the Autumn Festival in Madrid, Opera of Tenerife and festivals of Religious Music in Cuenca, Granada, and Peralada, as well as the Mozart Festival in La Coruña. In addition, the Choir has maintained a constant presence at the Palau de la Música and other major auditoriums throughout the Valencia region, and has given the debut performances of many works by Valencian composers.

The European tour of Tramuntana Tremens, by Carles Santos, the Barcelona '92 Olympic Games closing ceremony and the concerts held at the UNESCO Paris headquarters, the Lisbon Universal Exhibition and Salamanca 2002 and the Cervantes Institute of New York.

Likewise, Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana has collaborated with La Fura dels Baus theater group on such operatic performances as El martirio de San Sebastián, (The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian) by Debussy, which debuted at the Rome Opera, and La Atlántida, by Falla.

The Cor has a substantial discography, having released recordings dedicated to Mompou, Luis de Pablo and Falla (Harmonia Mundi) with Josep Pons, a program of Renaissance music (Naïve), and Llibre vermell and El Misteri d'Elx (Licanus), together with the group Capella de Ministrers. The Choir also participated in the recordings for the Complete Works of Joaquin Rodrigo released by EMI to celebrate the centennial of the composer's birth.
