Was born in Llíria (Valencia) and studied at the Valencia Conservatory, before going on to study orchestral conducting with Volker Wangheneim and Igor Markevitch. He made his European debut in 1970 with the Montecarlo Opera National Orchestra and first performed in Spain with the RTVE (Spanish National Television and Radio) Orchestra. He has conducted such orchestras as the French Nationale, the Hungarian Philharmonic, Tokyo's Nisson Symphony Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, Dresden Philarmoniker, Munich's Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Venezuela National Orchestra, Montivideo's SODRE, Mexico's OFUNAM, the Florida Festival Orchestra and, naturally, the majority of the Spanish orchestras. He has also conducted the most relevant instrumentalists and singers of the international scene. His ample repertoire ranges from the baroque period to the 20th century and he has premiered hundreds of symphonic and lyrical works written by composers of his generation. Within the opera field, recent seasons have found him conducting Mephistopheles, La Damnation de Faust, Elektra, Siegfried and Carmen, in addition to titles by Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Cimarosa, etc., and the premieres of Blanquer's El Triomf de Tirant and Báguena Soler's El mar de las sirenas. He recently conducted Las golondrinas by Usandizaga in Teatro Real de Madrid and Wagner's Das Rheingold at Bilbao's Euskalduna. He has recorded for the Auvidis, Sony Classical, and Albany Records labels, RTVE, ANEC, Tabalet and pieces by Albéniz, Óscar Esplá, Joaquín Rodrigo, Manuel Palau, Chavarri, Leonardo Balada and Cesar Cano etc. He is a member of Madrid's San Fernando, Sevilla's Santa Isabel de Hungria, and Valencia's San Carlos royal academies.
From 1983 to 1997, he was resident conductor of the Valencia Orchestra and has held the same post with Grup Instrumental de València. Since 1999, he is musical director of the Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana, recently completing a tour with the orchestra featuring Mstislav Rostropovitch as soloist.
